Virginia Stafford left this world to walk with Jesus on January 9, 2021 at the age of 91 from natural causes. Virginia, the daughter of a coal miner, was born in Arkansas and spent her early childhood years there before the family migrated like many others did during the post-depression years to better opportunities out west. The family settled in San Francisco for a period of time where her father worked in the shipyards and Virginia spent her formative years growing up. Virginia loved to recount the sights and impressions of those years to her family that lived in the Bay Area for a period of time. From San Francisco, Virginia's family settled in Porterville, California where she met and married her husband of 67 years, Herschel Stafford and had one son. Herschel and Virginia moved to Terra Bella about 43 years ago and spent their remaining years there.
Over Virginia's life she had much pleasure with her sewing which she was beautifully skilled at. Virginia was also a wonderful cook and mother to her only son. Virginia's community service involved teaching Bible Study classes at Glad Tidings Church in Porterville, participating in the local American Legion in Terra Bella, and helping her nephew, Larry Stafford at the family's namesake chocolate store. The other significant love and joy of Virginia was the time spent caring for her many cats.
Due to COVID exposure concerns and local/state restrictions there will be no funeral nor memorial service. Virginia was laid to rest next to Herschel Stafford at Vandalia Cemetery of Porterville. Any desire to send flowers in her honor can be replaced by sending donations in her name to the local ASPCA organization to continue care for local cats and dogs.
