Paula Diane Doyel Roche was born on October 7, 1962 to Norma and Walter Doyel Sr. in Porterville, California. Paula was a 6th generation Porterville area descendant and a life-long Porterville/Springville resident.
She attended Vandalia Elementary School and Pioneer Middle School where she played the flute. A ten-year member of 4-H, Paula first joined Vandalia 4-H Club and was later a charter member of Plano 4-H Club in 1975. Paula graduated from Porterville High School in 1980, where she was a four-year member of the Panther Band and a member of GAA.
While attending Porterville College she met Christopher Todd Roche. The two married and spent 12 years together, having one daughter, Daley, the joy of their lives.
As she would say, in her "first life" she worked in the medical field as a medical assistant and then a lab technician. She worked in the offices of Dr. William H Goodin, MD and Dr. James Myron Lord, MD.
After spending a few years as a stay-at-home mom and officer of the Home & School Parent Association at St. Anne's School, she later continued her schooling and found her true calling in the education system. She earned her Associate degree from Porterville College where she was a member of the Phi Theda Kappa Honor Society. In 2006, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from Fresno Pacific University, graduating summa cum laude.
Paula became a high school counselor at Harmony Magnet Academy in 2011, spending nearly 13 years helping countless students earn their high school diploma and achieve their academic goals. She worked tirelessly to support each of her students in any way she could, and spent much of her free time attending school performances and athletic events to cheer them on.
Paula spent her entire life giving back to the community while helping shape future generations. She spent nearly 50 years a part of Job's Daughters International serving in various positions. She is a third-generation Majority Member of Bethel No. 108 Porterville where she held several positions before and after being elected as Honored Queen in 1979. She continued to serve as a member of the Bethel Guardian Council for several years, including as Bethel Guardian. Paula was selected to serve as a state officer, holding the office of Grand Bethel Junior Custodian from June 1984 - 1985 and Grand Senior Custodian in 2019. She served as a trustee on the California Job's Daughters Foundation where she enjoyed helping organize the annual silent auction fundraiser to raise scholarship funds for students. Paula was chosen to receive the Degree of Royal Purple, an esteemed honor, for her continued service with Job's Daughters.
Paula was also a member of Palm Leaf Chapter No. 114 Order of the Eastern Star, holding many offices over the years.
In Paula's free time, she enjoyed attending the latest musicals and making trips to Disneyland with her daughter. She was also an avid Jeopardy! watcher (good luck trying to stump her on a question).
After an almost 5-year battle with cancer, Paula joined her heavenly father on February 27, 2024 at home surrounded by her loved ones. She is survived by her mother, Norma Doyel,; daughter, Daley Greco (husband Daniel); nephew, Sheriden Doyel; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Doyel Sr,; brother, Walter Doyel Jr.; and her niece, Stephanie Doyel.
