Margaret Ann Rogers

December 1, 1934 — February 12, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of the matriarch of our family. Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, second mother to many, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 12, 2025 at the age of 90 after battling a brief illness. She lived in Amesbury, MA at her passing.

Maggie was born in Palmer, TN, on Dec. 1, 1934 to Margaret Jean (Otis) and James Elmo Burnette. She was named after her mother and grandmother-the third Margaret. As an only child, her dad used to tease her that they didn't have any more children because they broke the mold with her.

After graduating from high school as her class valedictorian, she met her first husband, James Grover, while briefly attending college. She had three children (Susie, Michael, Bob) from that marriage. Maggie had two more children (Peggy, Linda) from a second marriage to John Grover. It was during this time that she went back to college and earned an RN degree at Santa Barbara City College. Maggie loved being a nurse. Her third marriage to "Ed" Rogers was a very happy and joyous union. Maggie welcomed Ed's two adult children (Donnie, Kathy) as part of the family.

In 1983, Maggie and Ed moved to Porterville, CA to be near their daughter, Susie Neal and her family. Maggie continued her nursing career as a nursing supervisor at Sierra View Medical Center. She was a longtime member of the Porterville Quilt Club and enjoyed making quilts for her children and grandchildren, as well as making three large wall hangings for her church, St. Anne's. She was also a member of Holy Cross Church.

Besides her nursing and making and designing quilts, as well as teaching quilting classes, she loved reading, eating chocolate (is there another flavor?!), everything Christmas, but most of all she loved people, especially her family. We all enjoyed gathering at her house for holidays and family dinners. Her grandchildren called her "the fun grandma".

Maggie's love of people was also expressed in the many ways she volunteered her time and talents: from being a Gray Lady, serving the Red Cross, organizing home stays for foreign students before they started their studies at UCSB, going on a mission trip with her daughters, Susie and Linda, and granddaughter, Ale, to Guatemala, serving her church, and ministering to women in prison. As a mother and grandmother, she spent many hours supporting her children's various interests. Maggie also served as a second mother to many, especially to the Caulfield children and to her friend Carol's children (Priscilla, Rae Lynne and her daughter Theresa) after Carol's passing.

In 2017, Maggie moved from Porterville, CA to Massachusetts to be near her daughter Linda Monroe, as she needed more help with her health. Linda's family enjoyed having her live there until she passed from this life.

We rejoice that our matriarch is with the Lord, but her passing leaves us with sadness at our loss. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by children: Susie Neal (Glenn), Michael Grover (Linda), Bob Grover (Shirin), Linda Monroe (Bill), Kathy Mezo; grandchildren: Anthony Neal, Helen Crawford, Brian Neal, Jon Grover, Josh Grover, Jamie Grover, Heather Lawrie, Elena Parsi, Alessandra Monroe, Olivia Monroe, Dirk Rogers, Casey Rogers, Courtney Edmundson, Carey Viker; great grandchildren: Laurisa Lohmann Neal, Jasmine Crawford, Kaylee Crawford, Henry Crawford, Caiden Neal, Austin Neal, Taylor Grover, Payton Grover, Malia Lawrie, Soraya Lawrie, Liam Allard, Ava May Allard, Kayla Reynolds, Carson Viker, Caden Viker: and her former brother-in-law Walt Grover and his family. Maggie is predeceased by husband Ed Rogers, daughter Peggy Grover, son Donnie Rogers. While a lifetime lover of dogs, Maggie is survived by Lizzie, a rescue cat, who gave her great comfort in her last years.

A private service and burial will be held by the family.
