C. Joann Swearingen

C. Joann Swearingen (aka Nana), age 88, formerly of Roswell, New Mexico, passed away Saturday August 5, 2023. Joann was born to Ewell Isaac and Flora E Taylor on January 12, 1935, adding to eventual six Taylor children.

In Roswell, is where Joann met and married the love of her life, Haskell in 1951. Together they moved to California in 1963 where they raised their four children: Carol Swearingen, Cheryl Haugen (Shawn Haugen), Haskell Ray Swearingen and James Swearingen (Janet Swearingen). Here is where their family began creating their long-time treasured memories of cooking (her specialties being: tamales, butter roll pie and oatmeal), family gatherings and the elusive Swearingen clan.

Joann enjoyed her days watching and playing with her eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and countless bonus children who loved and cherished every chance they got to be at Nana and Papa's house.

Anyone who had the opportunity to meet her, eat her food or even give her a hug, will forever be changed by the grace and influence she spread throughout their lives. Joann will live forever in our memories and hearts.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to American Care Hospice for their incredible hospitality for our Nana, while in their care.

There will be a viewing at Myers Chapel in Porterville, CA on Sunday, August 13, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Porterville, CA on Monday, August 14, 2023 at 9:00 AM.
