Fannie Laura Pence

September 18, 1938 — August 7, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that her family announces the passing of an amazing woman, on Sunday, August 7, 2022. Fannie to some, Laura to others, was born in a small town in Louisiana, on September 18, 1938. It was a day that an incredible blessing to so many people entered our world. Her family moved to California when she was young. Fannie (Laura) learned her hard work ethic early in life, picking fruit and doing other field work from a young age with her family.
In high school she was a member of the Strathmore High School marching band, where she graduated in 1956. Soon after, she married U.S. Marine Harry L. Curbow. After his tour in Korea they settled in Tulare County and began their family. Fannie was very talented and was able to work a variety of jobs, from: running olive crews, working in a butcher shop, hardware store, an appliance store, grocery store checker, and babysitter – she could do it all! She was a skilled seamstress and an awesome cook. She had four sons for whom she was their biggest advocate.
Fannie lived her Godly faith every day as an example to all who knew her. Church services were a paramount commitment that was part of her entire life. After the passing of her husband, she later met and married Alfred E. Pence Jr., and added two more adult children to their family. Al was a barber, and Laura soon earned her barber license and they worked together in his barber shop in Porterville. Laura loved her kids, but when her grandkids and great-grandkids, and great-great grandkids came along, oh boy, did she really come alive! She made each one feel as special as she could. She sacrificed whatever was needed to show God’s love to them. She was kind, patient, generous, caring, loving, and the list could go on.
Laura shared Jesus with everyone she met, and now she is finally at peace in Heaven; a race well run, and a life well lived. Well done, good and faithful servant, your family loves you forever and ever. You are greatly missed already.
