Don Overstreet was born on January 25, 1927 in Porterville, California to his father John Overstreet and Mother Rosetta Overstreet (Adams). He grew up in Porterville, California on the family farm. He had two sisters, Joy and June; one brother, Roger. He attended Burton Elementary School and then Porterville High School.
He graduated from High School early and went to boot camp. At the age of 17, he joined the Navy, to help fight in World War II. After the Navy he attended Porterville College and played football. Then he met the love of his life, Ethel Morris. They married on February 18, 1950. They had 3 daughters, Susan Overstreet (Appel), Nancy Overstreet, and Donna Overstreet (Roth). They owned and operated Don’s Auto Parts in Visalia, California.
Don was an avid fisherman, who made his own flies for fly fishing and would always help anyone whose fishing line was caught on a tree or at the bottom of the river. He loved to play golf and had many wonderful golfing friends. He also loved to do a little gambling. He would go to the local casinos and play the slots, and typically win.
He passed away on May 21, 2022. He is preceded in death by his mother, Rosetta; father, John; brother, Roger; sister, June; wife Ethel, sons-in-law, Greg, Thomas and Stacy.
He is survived by his sister, Joy; daughters, Susan, Nancy and Donna; grandchildren, Jenifer and partner patty, Amanda and husband Eric, Sarabeth, Katie, and Chayton; great grandchildren, A.J., Mady, and Evelyn; and numerous other family member and friends…to many to list. He will be greatly missed by all.
A Graveside service will be held at Vandalia Cemetery, Porterville on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 10:00 AM.
