David Arthur Wahlers, was born in Emanuel hospital in Portland, Oregon on December 19, 1960, to Carol and Arthur Wahlers.
David was a very special member of the Wahlers family. From birth, he was autistic and although unable to communicate with family members or family friends throughout his life, he nonetheless made an enduring undeniable impact on his siblings and his parents who learned much from David... especially patience and empathy. David did have a relationship with Mabel Rehwaldt, a Portland family friend who lived nearby. David loved music and loved to attend church to hear instruments played and people singing hymns and songs. He loved the outdoors and particularly enjoyed swinging on swings and rhythm activities. For many years, David lived at the Good Shepherd Home of the West in Terra Bella, California where he enjoyed the warm California weather. Another resident of Good Shepherd, Judy Muhly, took David under her wing and took special care of him. After living in Terra Bella and later in Porterville, California, David moved to Los Angeles, where he lived in the wonderful and caring Garth family group home. David passed away into eternal life with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday evening, March 26, 2023, in Los Angeles. His sister, Mimi and his brother-in-law Steve were with him. He was 62 years old.
David was predeceased by his loving parents - Arthur and Carol Wahlers.
He is survived by his bother, Mark (Yoshino Okaniwa); his sister, Mimi (Steve); his brother, Joel (Dawn); his nieces, Nicki and Maggie Wahlers; and his nephew, Matthew Wahlers. A service of Christian burial will occur at Zion Lutheran Church/Cemetery in Terra Bella, CA on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 1:00 PM, where David will be interred. Memorial contributions can be made to the Good Shepherd Fund (
