1970-2024
DAVID JOSEPH RAMIREZ NUCUM, a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, coach and friend to many, passed after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 54.
David is survived by his wife, Rodelyn Nucum; three sons, Brandon Nucum, Dominik Nucum, Anthony Johnson; a daughter, Madison Johnson; two grandsons, Nikko Nucum and Kamari Johnson; four brothers; and three sisters. He is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and older brothers, Larry Nucum and Jesus Cecilio Nucum.
David was born on September 9, 1970, in Porterville, CA, to Jose B. Nucum and Secondina Ramirez Nucum of Terra Bella, CA. He is a graduate of Terra Bella Elementary School and Porterville High School. After receiving scholarships and grants, he attended San Joaquin Valley College to pursue a career in Business & Accounting.
After a few years working at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center #6021, he returned to school at the Psychiatric Technology Program at Porterville College. He started his career at Porterville Developmental Center, being promoted to Unit Supervisor, until his retirement in 2023.
In 1992, David co-founded Rising Stars Basketball. What started out to be a few friends playing organized basketball, grew into a non-profit organization that reached out to many young children/youth in the community, coaching and mentoring them in the sport which he loved. Through Rising Stars, they were able to compete in local, state and regional tournaments, winning numerous championships.
From 2021 to 2024, David embraced the opportunity to become the Head Coach of the Varsity Girls Basketball team at Lindsay High School, leading them to a Valley Championship in 2023.
David will be deeply missed by his family, friends and those who knew him.
A Viewing will be held at Myers Reception Hall in Porterville, California on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, with the recital of the rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will held at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Porterville, California on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow at St. Anne's Cemetery.
