Albert “Al” Carabay was born in Tulare California on May 17th, 1951 to Guadalupe and Jose De La Luz Carabay. He was one of the youngest out of 16 siblings.
He graduated in the class of 1969 from Porterville high school. In 1975 he enlisted in the U.S. Army becoming a medic with the 101st Airborne Division, and was honorably discharged on June 2nd, 1978.
Following his honorable discharge, he went on to Porterville College where he completed the Psychiatric Technician program and continued his education to obtain his Associate of Science Degree. During this time, he continued to serve his country through the Army Reserve until 1981.
He began his 20+ year career at Porterville Developmental Center as a Psychiatric Technician, quickly promoting to a Senior Psychiatric Technician before retiring in 2000. In his time at Porterville Developmental Center he met the love of his life Melania. They were married for 34 years, sharing 4 children together until the Lord called him home on 02/02/2022.
He is survived by his beloved wife Melania, four children: Rachel Carabay, Evette Carabay Hall (Joshua Hall), Albert Carabay Jr., and Anthony Carabay, 7 siblings: Belia Casares, Clotilde Al Rashed, Francis Garay, Natalie Woodcox, Marylou Travis, Esteban Carabay, Michael Carabay, 10 grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, and 6 brothers.
On 02/24/2022, a viewing will be held at Myers Chapel from 3-6 pm with the Rosary beginning at 6 pm. Al’s celebration of life will begin on 02/25/2022 with mass at Holy Cross Church at 11 am, with burial and reception immediately following.
